MY CANADIAN THANKSGIVING grey and white buffet

This wife was refinishing a buffet on thanksgiving
while her husband was preparing to serve a turkey buffet.

This pieces was up for auction recently and we eventually got it at a reasonable price.

Before
This is one of those pieces that makes me long for more space, a more traditional home,
or even a double wide trailer.
I think you all know what would happen if I had more space ...

Sprayed in a soft grey

I would use it in my shabby chic livingroom for the TV console.

After
I mixed this color using old white, provence, and graphite, all chalk paint colors.

Its a very soft grey and exactly what I wanted.

The hardware was all removed and painted with a flat bright white paint.

I also hand painted the all the trim details.

I sat quietly painting the white trim and occasionally I would feel the warm sun on my back as the sun played hide and seek with the clouds thru the day.

When he had the time George would come sit with me
and enjoy a few moments of the day and before he would have to run back to the kitchen,
he would always lean in and steal a kiss.

The entire piece was finished with wax and buffed to shine.

With some gentle distressing in the right places and the white against the soft grey,
the whole piece just looks amazing.

I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Tea Box Calico Box for my niece Sarah Discussion and Plans

Hi Everyone,

While the pine box is cooling its heels down in the shop, we have a new project afoot: a small jewelry box for my niece Sarah.

Discussion

Sarah is my niece in Texas and shes graduating from high school next month and Ive decided to make her a calico box for her jewelry. So Ive taken one of the laminated blocks and begun turning it:

Plans

This is going to be a simple box with a lid. Im going to hollow it out and make an inset lid for it:

Ive smoothed the outside of the block and here is the inside that Im beginning to hollow out. You can see a small lip on the rim and the lid will fit onto that lip. So instead of the lid sitting on top of the box, it will sit inside of the box:

And Ill make the box lid out of this wild and crazy piece of white ash:

Since this isnt designed for food, I can finish it with anything so Ill probably find something very glossy and fancy and do it with that.

Ill finish hollowing it out tomorrow and begin the lid.

See you tomorrow,

VW

I posted my first project video to YouTube!

Like most things this video took longer than I expected and I am not 100% happy with it.  Overall I think it is a good first video and I learned a lot from making it.  I hope you enjoy it enough to subscribe to my channel on YouTube.  I am always open to constructive criticism so please let me know what you think in the comments section.

My favorites at Target

If youve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that I love Target. The home section is a favorite for finding home items because of the great prices and on trend staple and designer lines.

Here are a few of my favorites this week:

The Nate Berkus line has finally landed in San Luis Obispo (better late than never!) and this has definitely been one of my favorite designer line to date, bravo Target and Nate! I love these jute rugs, especially the diamond one in the center. What a great way to add texture to a room!

These cable knit throws also caught my eye. The colors were really beautiful - the icky fluorescent lighting and phone camera dont do them justice!

and back to Nate, his curry bath line is the perfect mix of mustard yellow and pattern - I want!

There was so much more that I liked, I wish I would of taken more photos ...

Have you found anything recently at Target that was too good to pass up?

--
and last but not least,

Slowly but surely we are making progress on the credenza! Well be doing a two tone paint job so make sure to come back for the finished photos (Monday), but it has come a very long way from last week ...

eek!

--

Ive also gotten back to oil painting! I painted a lot in college, and havent had the space since, so it was been nice to get back to it. Check back tomorrow to see what Ive been working on!
